As a sister meet-up to ChiSec, BurbSec has become the Chicago Information Security Meet-Up Network for Info-Sec Professionals, Researchers, Hackers, and all things in-between!
Unlike other meetings, there are no “dues”, nothing to join, and no exploits to present! Don’t worry about being late, people will begin to roll in after-work around 5:30pm and we will finish up whenever people leave (generally 4 - 5 hours or so as people come and go). What to expect? An informal night of great networking and lubricated conversations!
We're also a chatty bunch and have a IRC channel on freenode if you would like to chat with us.
We're just like you and you will fit right in. We geek out on infosec, memes, beer, and compliance jokes (among other things). Our skill set ranges from novice to expert and includes paper hat making. There will be someone who you can ask tough questions and get answers as well as be asked tough questions and give answers.
Aside from finding like minded people, you will make contacts, friendships, and expand your network of professional connections with genuine people. These are the kind of connections that help you solve that tough problem at work, at home, or in the job market.
Have I mentioned that people come to BurbSecWest looking to hire and/or recruit?
In our goal to provide a well-rounded whole life experience, we have formed BurbSec Gaming. Like pen and paper RPGs? Cards Against Humanity? Board Games? Artemis SBS? We exist to raise your geek cred.
BurbSec gaming relies on participation from members from all three meetings. If you can host, run a one-session RPG, or teach a board game, please message us on twitter. Otherwise, we schedule events at Games Plus and Wandering Dragon Game Shop.
BurbSec Racing is a fun way for a lot of us infosec professionals, hackers, researchers, and other folks to get together, burn some stress (and maybe a little rubber), and have a little fun racing each other in some kart racing.
No, these karts aren't the Mario Kart kind (however that may be an interesting idea for another day), the karts that we race can pull over a lateral G and can accelerate to 40mph. They are some serious equipment and serious fun.
Interested? Simply show up to the next event and let us know on twitter!
