As a sister meet-up to ChiSec, BurbSec has become the Chicago Information Security Meet-Up Network for Info-Sec Professionals, Researchers, Hackers, and all things in-between!
Unlike other meetings, there are no “dues”, nothing to join, and no exploits to present! Don’t worry about being late, people will begin to roll in after-work around 5:30pm and we will finish up whenever people leave (generally 4 - 5 hours or so as people come and go). What to expect? An informal night of great networking and lubricated conversations!
We're just like you and you will fit right in. We geek out on infosec, memes, beer, and compliance jokes (among other things). Our skill set ranges from novice to expert and includes paper hat making. There will be someone who you can ask tough questions and get answers as well as be asked tough questions and give answers.
Aside from finding like minded people, you will make contacts, friendships, and expand your network of professional connections with genuine people. These are the kind of connections that help you solve that tough problem at work, at home, or in the job market.
Have I mentioned that people come to BurbSec looking to hire and/or recruit?
BurbSec celebrates information security each and every week, and we thought what better way to unwind after Thotcon than to open our doors, enjoy a local pint, and celebrate Chicago's InfoSec community with old friends and new? Thotcon draws in many infosec enthusiasts from well outside the Chicagoland region, making this a particularly anticipated event, and we'd love to give these travelers a reason to stay and check out our beautiful city through the weekend.
Geeks! Nerds! Normies! Boating enthusiasts! The primary purpose of the event is to be a "super-chill, low-key" hangout. We WILL have a single talk track with 5 and 20-minute blocks (stage, projector & mic will be provided). The Chicago Toool chapter will be out in force, and there will be board games and a contest or two. We'll have two private rooms in a cafe with GREAT food, a solid beer selection, and amazing coffee.
This year's BurbSecCon is still in the planning stages and we have not yet decided on a final venue. Stay tuned!
Nothing! We will be enforcing a strict Bring-Your-Own-Badge policy, so bring a badge you feel is the most (in)appropriate. Contests will be held for Best Badge in several categories. The bar/cafe and kitchen will not be covered, so that's also on you, but the prices are quite reasonable for the city.
